About Woody and Blue

Woody and Blue was established by artist Haroun Ray, with an academic background in both mixed media arts and architecture.

"I was looking for a new direction in my career, where I could draw on my academic background but also get close to my materials in a time-established craft and chose millinery as the one.

"So in 2013 after an amazing introduction from master milliner Karen Shanon and a full year under her studying contemporary millinery there followed a brilliant second year with master milliner Sarah Lomax and I had found my profession. I stick to old school couture techniques with lots of needle and thread to create unique hats for any occasion.

"I carefully select my materials, using sinamay, woollen felts, French laces, Italian or French organza silk, fine French embroidery, Spanish or Panama straw, Scottish tartans or tweeds, assorted French feathers, Swarovski crystal and beads from all around the world. All of our silk organza flowers are handmade here at the studio.

"My style is a fusion of my respect to the past with the characterful creations of golden eras and the exploration into fanciful and the customised.

"If you have particular preferences or allergies, please let me know, and I will create a hat for your requirements.

"I’m based in Dalson, London and I have a spot in Jubilee Market, Covent Garden where customers can visit me and try on my creations."

Woody and Blue is proud to be a member of the British Millinery Association.
